Sierra Structural is an Engineering and Construction company that
specializes in the design, fabrication, and erection of complex steel and
concrete buildings. Sierra Structural is also a manufacturer pre-engineered
joists and girders, pedestrian bridges, and solar carport structures.
The company was established in 1995 by
Mark Mero. While in college in the early 80's Mark majored in
civil engineering
and computer science. In the summers he worked as an apprentice ironworker
and welder for several AISC level fabricators. During his last year of college he worked for a structural
engineering firm in the design and detailing department. After 8 years
project managing the design and construction of small to medium sized
steel buildings, he went off and started his own business.
At first the projects were small structural
fabrications for high end custom homes.
By 1999 the company had grown to 15 employees and was fabricating and erecting
commercial projects in the 200 to 300 ton range. In 2001 they
established an in house engineering and detailing department that
utilizes Tekla Structures, (BIM) Building Information Modeling software, formally
known as Xsteel. As the company's engineering capability out grew its
own needs, they began to provide engineering and modeling services to other AEC firms.
In 2003 they established a separate steel detailing company who's
clientele are structural engineering firms and AISC level fabricators. To
date they have completed over 500 (BIM) fabrication models and shop drawing
submittals for projects though out the U.S.
Since the beginning Sierra Structural has engineered and or
constructed over 160 projects in California and Hawaii, of which 38 projects
have been high end custom homes.
Mark and his wife live with their two young beautiful children, two dogs,
one cat, seven chickens, and two horses, in El Dorado County California, where they
all enjoy skiing in the winter and sailing their Hobie Cat 20 in the
summer.
